1. The first time the bikini was featured in Sports Illustrated was in 1964.

Tips For Swimsuit Care

February 11th, 2010 | | Rss Feed

Swimsuits are not cheap. However to make a swimsuit last longer, here are tips on how to best care for a swimsuit.

Swimsuits are usually made with synthetic materials that can be a bit fragile. Although hand washing a swimsuit is best, it might be an okay alternative is washing on a low setting. Refrain from bleaching and it is probably best to turn the swimsuit inside out for washing.

As for machine drying – DO NOT!!! Hang it dry and away from the sun. Some swimsuits may have materials in the design that could melt or wear thin faster. Also, in some swimwear, machine drying could ruin the fabric or produce a ‘pill’ effect.

After use, either hang dry or throw immediately in the washer. This will prevent mold from growing. If molding occurs, not only is the suit stained, it also smells bad.

When using a swimsuit and sitting on the pavement, try sitting on a towel. This will prevent the pavement around the pool or even small pebbles from destroying the bottom of the swimsuit.

It might be best to own more than one suit. The synthetic Lycra fabric takes a whole day to return back to its regular shape.

Do you have any tips on how to take care of swimsuit?

Swim Suit Body Types- Part 3: Small On Top

February 3rd, 2010 | | Rss Feed

This is part 3 of the Swim Suit Body type series. This one focuses on women with smaller busts looking for a swimsuit that will flatter their body. The focus is to create the illusions of a tasteful yet cute style, especially for women uncomfortable about their own body type. Of course, women with a smaller bust line can swear sexy swimwear too and hopefully this article will help.

Having a padded bra or demi-bra with some wiring might give a bit of boost to small bustlines. Also, wearing ruffled topped swimsuits give the illusion of some breast line. Ruffled tops are not ideal for women who are already bigger as it will make them look off balanced and awkward. It is important to not choose too much ruffles or decorations on top or it could detract from the illusion you are trying to create a flirty yet graceful look.

Another look that women who are smaller on top can pull off with a sexier look is the bandeau styles swimsuit. They come in one piece swimsuits and bikinis.

Make sure to find adjustable strapped swimsuits that allow lifting the bust. Do not choose swimsuits that do not fit well or do not adjust well.

Below are just a few exampled of the style best suited for women with smallers bustlined.

Some Tankini Facts

January 27th, 2010 | | Rss Feed

Tankinis came to be in the 1990s, something of a juggling between tank tops and swimsuits. Although it is two pieces much like the bikini, the tankini was intended to provide a little more coverage. Where there were women who like to wear swimsuits, it was the lack of coverage that bikinis could promise that became a problem. This was due to either being uncomfortable about their body or an all out fear of seeming nude. The design of the tankini also solved some annoyances like taking off one-piece swimsuits to go to the wash room.

Tankinis are great for most body types as they come in a variety of cuts. They are also for all ages too and for most occasions. They are easy to mix and match too. Whether playing beach volleyball, swimming, flirting, or just having fun in the sun, tankinis come in styles to suit the mood. For those who are bustier, some styles of tankinis provide support.

Below are just a few different examples of tankinis.

Swim Suit Body Types- Part 2: Short Legs or Torso

January 24th, 2010 | | Rss Feed

This is part two of the swim suit body type series which covers women with shorter legs or a smaller torso. The key is to create the illusion of a longer body. It is not as hard as it seems. Although swimsuits only cover so much of the body, here are some DOs and DON’Ts for women with short legs and/or torso needing advice on what styles to look for when swimsuit shopping.

DOs:
- Swimsuits with vertical strips make the body seem longer. This is the easiest and most common trick.
- Two-pieces like tankinis that have a solid bottom and printed top will draw the eye upward and away from the torso and legs.
- For a fun and flirtatious look, try a one-piece swimsuit with a plunging neckline. This will make the torso seem longer.
- To make the legs seem longer, wear a swimsuit that is cut high on the thighs.

DON’Ts:
- Boy cut shorts for swim suit bottoms
- Skirted swuimsuits.
- Shorts
All of the above will draw the eye down and make already short legs seem shorter.

Below are just a few styles that are great for women with shorter legs and/or a small torso:

Swim Suit Body Types – Part 1: Big On Top

January 23rd, 2010 | | Rss Feed

Part 1 is for those women who are busty. The problem with finding swimswuits that flatter women with larger busts is two factors: support, and or wrong cut in style. It is best to avoid strapless because they provide zero support. It is nearly impossible to find any strapless swimsuits in one or two pieces that do this.

It is better to try halter-style bikinis, or structured swimsuits that provide bust support. Haltered-style swimsuits even help give lift to bust. Sometimes finding under-wire suits that are designed with these styles will be fine. This allows a flattering cleavage without fearing a spill out. Women with bigger busts should not choose spaghetti strapped swimsuits. Again, this deals with support, so choosing wider straps will be more comfortable.

On a note, even though there are one-piece halter-style swimsuits, do at least look for something that does tie in the back around the midriff area, to help lift and support the bustline.

It might also be an option to try a tankini with support, especially for those who like to pull off a more sporty look.

Here are just a few examples of styles that women with larger busts might want to wear:

The History Of The Bikini

January 20th, 2010 | | Rss Feed

Every cut of every fashion that exists has a history, including the bikini. Interestingly enough, according to Wikipedia’s article about the Bikini, the concept of the style dates back to the Greco-Roman era. Artwork depicting women in bikini-style clothing have been unearthed by archaeologists, even one of the goddess Venus! Of course, they were not called bikinis back then, but the women wore two pieces of cloth while participating in athletic games during the ancient times.

However, it was not until the 1900s that the style appeared once again. And when they did appear, it shocked the world. By 1946, the bikini was finally given its name. Back then, bathing suits were just starting to show more skin, and still people were having problems accepting the new scandalously skin showing clothing. The modern bikini was named by a French designer named Louis Réard who decided to name the style after the Bikini Atoll, located in Micronesia. The area was located neat nuclear testing, so Réard’s reason was that the reaction would be literally like an explosion. From there, the bikini style grew more popular.

Today, there are now many styles of bikinis – sports, thong, halter-style, strapless, and more! SwimSale happens to carry a great variety of bikini separates and sets.
